Take Improved Medicare for All to Your Caucus!

On March 7th, both Colorado Democratic and Republican Parties are holding their party caucuses.  The caucus process is how the grassroots informs the party of what issues are important to them. At caucus precincts, resolutions are proposed and voted upon. Resolutions with significant support make their way into County and State party platforms. Improved Medicare for All has been consistently prominent in past years within the Colorado Democratic Party Platform, but there's no reason to stop now! We believe in the benefits of health care for all regardless of party.  Health needs do not discriminate based on party affiliation. Given the strong support for universal health care among Republican voters as well, we'd love to see our Republican and Republican-leaning Independent voters promote resolutions at their caucuses as well!

Find out more about the caucus process and a sample recommendation for Caucus Resolution language here.

Update on Colorado Health Care Cost Savings Act of 2019
In Colorado's 2019 legislative session, the Health Care Costs Savings Act of 2019 was passed and signed into law.  The 15-member state task force, which includes bill sponsor Rep. Emily Sirota and noted author T. R. Reid, has begun their work, reviewing the results of several state and national studies that have already been done.  In addition, they decided to also consider the results of the 2007 Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission Report on Health Care Reform, which clearly documented that a Single Payer plan is the only type of reform that costs less than the status quo.  It also happens to be the only way to cover everyone as well.  Read more here...

2020 Communication Survey - Please HELP!
We are preparing to implement a bold and strategic communications plan this year to help education, outreach, and the political will for health care reform.  Before we do, we would like to know a little bit about your social media habits to help us understand where to focus our efforts.  This VERY SHORT SURVEY only takes a few minutes to complete. Will you answer a few questions to help us achieve Improved Medicare for All?

2020 Colorado Health Bills We Are Monitoring
The 2020 Colorado legislative session has begun!  As in past years, we will keep track of legislation related to health reform and update our position statements here.  Feel free to submit your comments on our 2020 Legislation Tracking page! We will update this page periodically throughout the legislative session.

Thoughts on the Colorado Public Option
In 2019, the Colorado Legislature passed a bill to create a proposal for a statewide Public Option for health insurance.  This session, the legislature is debating the proposal and we expect to see something implemented this year for coverage available beginning in 2022.  But will this Public Option help? Will it get us to universal health care? We reviewed the proposal and, though generally supportive, we had some serious concerns. See what we had to say about it here.
